B+L to Acquire Eye-Surgery Drug Miochol(R)-E
ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Bausch + Lomb announced Friday it has acquired some of the assets and intellectual property for Miochol(R)-E--an injectable miotic pharmaceutical used during eye surgeries to constrict the pupil--from affiliates of Novartis (NYSE: NVS). Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
SECO Announces Recipients of Three Student Awards
ATLANTA—SECO International has awarded three optometry students its 2010 Southern Council of Optometrists Clinical Excellence Awards, recognizing academic achievements by students from SECO-affiliated colleges.
This year's award recipients are Nicole Psaltis, from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry; Justine Siegers, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry; and Michelle Brennan from Southern College of Optometry.

PBA Promotes September as Sports Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month
CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness America (PBA), a leading volunteer eye health and safety organization, has declared September as Sports Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month to encourage parents and children to learn the steps they can take to protect vision.
According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), eye injuries are the leading cause of blindness in school-aged children and most of those injuries are sports-related.
